Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians, members of more than 32,000 Rotary clubs in 161 countries.

The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

All Rotarians worldwide adhere to

THE FOUR WAY TEST (In everything we think,do,or say)

                                                        First... Is it the truth?

                                                        Second... Is it fair to all concerned?

                                                        Third...Will it build goodwill and better friendship?

                                                        Fourth... Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life;

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Rotary Club of Toledo is to fulfill the Object of Rotary. We are a non-profit organization comprised of business and professional leaders who adhere to high ethical standards, build community goodwill, develop relationships through networking, encourage fellowship and mutual respect, and above all else, provide humanitarian service to groups in need at home and abroad.

Thoughts on Rotary from Aniese Seed, member of the Rotary Club of Toledo for 28 years.

"For years I have looked at our Rotary flag and have tried to give meaning to the gear symbol.  It is us! We are each a gear. We become useful when we mesh with another gear, another person.

When one gear turns uniformly the driven gear must also rotate uniformly. The resulting motion or position must provide the truth

When a heavy load or reluctance resists the motion (maybe it is a subordinate) the gear ratio must be fair. Otherwise damage may occur.

During rotation there is slide friction between the gear teeth and oil (goodwill and friendship) must be used.

A driven gear can deliver energy or position which will be beneficial to all concerned.
